the bastard!

during a meeting today, i received 4 phone calls during a space of about 15 minutes. being in a meeting, i didn't bother answering. though i was a bit concerned that something was up. so after getting out of the meeting, i called my sister (one of the callers) and found that the bank had called, asking if i had written a two thousand dollar check. i told her and my mom, that i had indeed written a two thousand dollar check. nevertheless, i went and called the bank to confirm. after calling the bank, i found that my check was written to "chun chi tan somethingorother", some random person i didn't know.

apparently, someone had been opening up mail and changing the recipient's name on the checks found. this is from the mailbox at work (company 'I'). one might think that you could trust the people you work with to not open your mail--people who routinely work with, buy, and upgrade equipment worth millions of dollars. but i guess you can't.
