incredible!

a few days ago, i received a letter from the mortgage company asking for proof of home insurance. "no biggie" i thought to myself. all i had to do was call up my insurance company, renew my policy, and fax over a letter to the mortgage company. if only things were so.

i tried calling my insurance agent, but she seemed to be out of town, so i called the underwriting company. i told them i wanted to renew my policy, and after several puzzled minutes of research, they came back to me and told me that i didn't have a home insurance policy. apparently it was canceled 11 months ago because of non-payment. apparently my insurance agent had provided them with the incorrect street address. what did the underwriting company do then? ask my agent why my house didn't match the house at the address? no... why not just send bills to the wrong address instead? since we sent it via certified mail, it must get to the right person!

so basically, if my place had burned down, i'd have been the proud owner of.... a piece of dirt. after many calls and a lot of frustration, i managed to get a new policy with a different agent. of course, a year ago, i also walked out of the insurance place thinking i was insured...
